Watamu sanctuary has protected lagoons and islands that give a perfect way to watch dolphins playing, feeding or having a party! The morning cruise will bring you the Indo Pacific bottlenose dolphins, humpback dolphins and the humpback whales in the wild, naturally. Humpback whales are the most majestic animals in the ocean, and are seen annually passing through the Kenyan Coast in early June as they make their annual migration north from Antarctica. Whales travel to warm tropical inner reefs during both breeding and birthing. Watching them in their natural environment leaping out of the water, sometimes in pairs, or larger family groups, is an unforgettable sight.
Continue your adventure of snorkeling. Snorkeling gives you a unique way to view the underwater realm without unsettling the marine life. You float effortlessly on the surface, remaining largely unnoticed by the aquatic creatures that are only feet below you. Two hours before or after low tide is the best time to go, as this is when you have the greatest chances of seeing maximum aquatic life. This breath-taking marine park, without a doubt offers some of the best snorkeling and diving spot options in the world. Return to the harbor for lunch which will include sea cuisine and Swahili delicacies and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Deep Sea Fishing
Warm and heavy breakfast at your hotel and later be picked for the fishing experience with a normal kick off just after sun rise when conditions are calm and often best for an early catch. Meet your boat captain on the sands of ocean where the boat is ready for the day’s unforgettable experiences in the ocean waters. Aboard will be the best quality tackle for use, ranging from bait rods and reels to the really heavy gear, plus a fighting chair. The shores of Kenya are almost as good as anywhere in the world for sailfish; a big blue marlin is an absolute privilege to see and they are usually found in deep water following tuna shoals. An angler’s dream of watching the leaping antics of a hooked sailfish or the struggle with a huge marlin and other monsters from the deeps can become a reality when fishing out in the ocean. Sometimes the captain will recommend a short spell at bottom-fishing, some 500 feet deep where big groupers are present along with many of the snapper family. Bringing the catch up from these depths is very tiring! Experience the whole day in the waters fishing a host of species for a catch.
Day 9: Scuba Diving and Dhow Cruising
Pick up early morning from your hotel for the scuba diving experience. The sheer wonder of being exposed to a new, unpredictable world, or the exhilaration of hanging motionless in warm, clear water alongside a whale shark, or being dazzled by the rainbow colours of so many marine life living within the hard corals and constantly darting about and where the only sounds are the crackling and popping of the coral, the clicks of the shrimps and gentle exhalations of the regulator, is what divers like. The gentle sloping wall of the reef range in depth of 2 to 32 meters below the surface. As you head down the wall, lion fish, groupers, barracuda, damsels, moray eels, butterfly fish and parot fish abound. Wonderful Nudibranchs are also fascinating to watch. After the diving expedition, return to your hotel for breakfast and lunch leisurely relaxing.
Later in the evening we have a Sundowner Sunset Cruise. Transfer to the harbor to board a traditional sailing boat of Arab origin for a cruise through the Mida Creek. The reserve perfectly combines the crystal clear waters with the mangroves, the sand islands and spectacular landscape views difficult to forget. During the cruise, we’ll witness the magical African sunsets while we get to know the great variety of fauna that inhabits Mida Creek, among which flamingos, yellow-billed storks or large egrets stand out. A delicacy of sea food varieties to be served and drinks while on the tour. Remember to gaze upwards to admire the twinkling stars! Transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
